The following calendar is based on academic, personal, social, and career-related themes that are important in the development of each student.
Each lesson and activity is designed to address relevant issues at the appropriate age and learning level of each student. Information on this page will be updated throughout the school year and changed based on need.
October: Counselor Introduction and School Success This month I will introduce myself to the students and give a brief overview of what I do in the school and for them. I will also be discussing the important elements needed to have a positive, productive school year.
November: Bully Free School This month I will be addressing the issues of bullying in the school. The lessons will focus on identifying the different types of bullying, what to do if you or someone else is being bullied, and ways to show respect for others.
December/January/February: Career Awareness Lessons will focus on learning about our interests, skills, and values and how they influence career choices. We will explore different types of careers and learn about the people who work in them.
March: Anger and Stress Management This month the guidance lessons will focus on the elements of anger and stress. We will discuss how these affect each of us and how to recognize the signs. We will also discuss and practice methods to cope with anger and stress in positive ways.
April: Problem Solving This month students will discuss different problems they may face at school, home, and the community. They will learn multiple methods for solving problems/conflicts and how to apply them in real world situations.
May: Confidence Building At end of the school year, the lessons will focus on increasing students' confidence in themselves, their relationships with others, as well as their future success in school and their community.
